In a March 18 interview with the Toronto Sun, In Her Own Sweet Time author Rachel Lehmann-Haupt explains what women in their 30s should know about freezing their eggs.
When asked what advice she would give to women considering having a baby, Lehmann-Haupt suggests, “Whenever you are in your life, if you think, even a little bit, that kids are in your future, take charge of your fertility. You may decide to get a fertility test at your yearly OB-GYN appointment. If you’re under 35, this is an optimal time to freeze your eggs. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine has now declared that egg freezing is safe, effective, and no longer considered an experimental treatment. You may end up dramatically changing your mind about not wanting kids at 37, and by preparing for this possibility you’ll be in much better place if you run into challenges.”
